A spouse bride discovers that her husband is harboring a horrific secret in Sebastian Gutierrez's sci-fi heroic tale.
At the start of Sebastian Gutierrez's sci-fi horror film Elizabeth Harvest, an especially flush man of science brings his beautiful and far younger better half home to his sprawling fashionable  estate for the primary time when their wedding. He provides her a tour of the lavish environmenta|geographic area|geographical region|geographic region} that are fastidiously attended to by 2 servants and that feature such high-tech  security devices as fingerprint locks. He tells her that everything she sees is hers, together with the lavish storage space. there is however one caveat: "The solely restricted area is that this one," he tells her as she appearance at its bolted door.

You don't got to be a rocket man of science to guess that it will not be long till she breaks his rule and opens that door, with horrific results.

A modern riff on the fictional character story displaying influences starting from wife to Italian giallo to Brian DePalma, Elizabeth Harvest begins promisingly. The writer-director establishes an environment of foreboding with associate stunning visual vogue. The characters prove instantly unforgettable, from the mysterious Henry (Ciaran Hinds), who's clearly drunk along with his new bride; to the tall, sylphlike Elizabeth (Abbey Lee), United Nations agency takes everything in with associate air of weary resignation; to the servants (Matthew Beard, Carla Gugino), United Nations agency show very little outward feeling however appear to be churning within. Add the inquisitive detective winsomely compete by Dylan Baker and you've got got the makings for real suspense.

Unfortunately, the film goes downhill from the instant that fateful door is opened. To reveal the violent and fantastical events that occur afterwards would be an excessive amount of of a spoiler. fulfill it to mention that the fun title provides a clue.

The main downside is that the plot becomes therefore convoluted that it does not live up to the intriguing setup. Most of the film's last half is consumed by plodding exposition that's not precisely handled in originative fashion. that's unless you think about it originative for a principal character to be bolted in a very area and compelled to scan a journal that reveals all. The confusing time-shifting chronology does not facilitate matters, whereas the filmmaker's makes an attempt to enliven the spooky proceedings via such devices as split-screen throughout a crucial  sequence solely calls additional attention to the narrative deficiencies.

The pic actually appearance beautiful, and not solely as a result of the attractive lead actresses ar photographed with the type of taken with attention once habitually provided by Hollywood films. Cale Finot's color-drenched motion-picture photography and Diana Trujillo's elaborate production style create priceless contributions, as will the ominous score composed by Faris Badwan and wife Zeffira. The performances, too, ar wonderful, with Hinds infusing his portrayal with a tortured intensity associated Lee sticking out an ambiguity that works absolutely for her character(s). Gugino and Beard ar equally effective, particularly as their roles deepen throughout the course of the story, and Baker's naturalism effectively contrasts with the gothic proceedings.

But the wonderful technical parts ar undercut by the tedious, repetitive plot. Elizabeth Harvest looks like the type of classic tale that is been told again and again before, however in much more involving fashion.
